What is 92.96 as a mixed number -

We know that .96 is actually 96 out of 100. So, the mixed number would be 92 and 96/100. To simplify this divide the numerator and denominator by 4.

Describe two methods for converting a mixed number to a decimal

Represent the mixed number as N a/b where N is the whole number part and a over b is the fraction. Method 1 Write down N and follow it by a decimal point. Now you need to divide b into a, but because a is smaller than b you need to write a, a decimal point, and as many zeroes as you wish for accuracy. Some decimals terminate (divide exactly) and some recur (a pattern repeats indefinitely). Example: a=3 and b=4 so we have 3/4. Divide b into 3.0000... Treat 3.0 as 30 and divide by 4, putting the answer immediately after the decimal point. So we have .7 and 2 over making 20 with the next zero. Now divide 4 into 20 and write the result after the 7: .75. This is an exact division so we don't need to go any further. Let's say N was 5 so the mixed number is 5 3/4. We've already written N as 5. so now we continue after the decimal point with what we just calculated giving us 5.75. Another example: 7 5/6. We write 7. first. Divide 6 into 5.0000... and we get .8333. This is a recurring decimal. We keep getting the same carryover. Now we attach the whole number part to get 7.83333... Another example: 2 1/16. We write 2. first. But be careful in the next part: 16 divided into 1.0000... 16 doesn't go into 10 so we write .0 as our first number. Then we divide 16 into 100. This is 6 remainder 4. So we have .06. 16 into 40 goes 2 remainder 8. That gives us .062. Finally 16 into 80 is exactly 5 so we have .0625. Attach this to the whole number: 2.0625. Method 2 For N a/b we make the improper fraction b*N+a over b, then divide by b. Example: 2 1/16: 16*2+1=33. So we divide 33.000.... by 16. We end up with 2.0625. Example: 7 5/6: divide 6*7+5=47 by 6. We end up with 7.83333...

Was Archimedes correct?

The way to determine if he was correct is to convert the two mixed numbers into decimal first. 3 1/7 or 22/7 is 3.142857... and 3 10/71 is 3.140845... Subtract pi from the former and we have 0.00126..., a positive number and subtract pi from 3 10/71=-0.00075. If a-b>0 and c-b<0, then bc or c Read More: ...

Is it true or false that the product of a mixed number between 4 and 5 and a fraction between 0 and 1 is always less than 4?

Is it true or false that the product of a mixed number between 4 and 5 and a fraction between 0 and 1 is always less than 4? It is always true.   Let P = N * F where N is the number between 4 and 5. i.e. Let N = 4 + ε, where ε is a positive value. and F is the fractional value i.e. Let F = 1 – δ, where δ is a positive value. Then, P = N * F P = (4 + ε)(1 - δ) P = 4 – εδ Since both ε and δ are positive values then so also is εδ. Therefore P is always less than 4.

how do you solve 3t^4+2t^3-300t-50=0

The expression does not factorise and the roots seem to be t=-0.16669 and 4.48653 approx. Check that you haven't missed out a term (e.g., t^2). If the equation was meant to factorise completely, then the product of the factors=-50. The factors must therefore consist of 1, 2, 5, 5. The factors of the 3t^4 must consist of 3t, t, t, t. The minus sign in front of the constant 50 implies that there must be an odd number of pluses and minuses amongst the factors: one minus and 3 pluses, or three minuses and one plus.  Let the coefficient of the apparently missing t^2 be k. The equation then reads: 3t^4+2t^3+kt^2-300t-50=0. If (t-1) is a factor then 3+2+k-300-50=0 and k=345. If (t+1) is a factor then 3-2+k+300-50=0 and k=52-303=-251. If (t-2) is a factor then 48+16+4k-600-50 and k=(1/4)(650-64)=293/2. If (t+2) is a factor then 48-16+4k+600-50 and k=(1/4)(66-648)=-291/2. It seems improbable that (t-2) or (t+2) could be a factor because k would be a mixed number (or improper fraction), so k=345 or -251. If (t-5) is a factor then 1875+250+25k-1500-50=0 and k=(1550-2125)/25=-23. If (t+5) is a factor then 1875-250+25k+1500-50=0 and k=(300-3375)/25=-123. We know that (3t+f) must be included as a factor, but if f=-5 or +5 then, since we need two 5's within the set of factors, so if one contains 3t, the other can only contain t. That means that (t-5) or (t+5) must be a factor. There's no point trying other factors like (t-25) or (t+10), because they would require (t-2) or (t+2), or (t-5) or (t+5), and (t-1) and (t+1) as other factors, which have already been covered. The exercise shows that no one value of k allows us to find more than one root. Had any two values of k above been the same we would have had at least two roots and a quadratic, which could have been solved, if it had had real roots. The conclusion is that finding one root only leaves us with a cubic equation that has no rational, real roots. This means that the question has been wrongly stated, and the inclusion of kt^2 doesn't help to solve it satisfactorily.

what is the diffrence between a whole number and a fraction?

fractions are also known as rational numbers (they can be written as repeating decimals or decimals that have an ending) pi is not rational cause it never ends a subset (smaller set) of rational numbers are the integers (positive and negative whole numbers) a subset of the integers are whole numbers which begin with 0 and go up by 1's As a Venn diagram it would be 1 big circle titled fractions (or rationals), a smaller circle completely inside the big one titled Integers and then a 3rd circle inside the 2nd titled whole numbers.

Round off 9704.8372 to the: nearest thousand, nearest whole number , two decimal places , three significant figures

Nearest thousand is 10000, which is nearer than 9000. 9704.8372 is 704.8372 away from 9000; but only 295.1628 away from 10000. The guide is usually the digit in the hundred position: if it's 5 or more then we go up to the next thousand (9 to 10 in this case), otherwise we just take the thousand digit as it is (9 in this case). 7, the hundred digit, is bigger than 5, so we take 10 thousand. Nearest whole number is 9705, which is nearer than 9704, because the next digit 8 is bigger than 5 and the 4 in the ones position goes up to 5. 2 dec places is 9704.84, which is nearer than 9704.83. 3 sig figures is 9700. The 3 figures are 9, 7 and 0, because the zero is occupying a place separating it from the next digit 4, so it is significant. The 4 would make it 4 sig figures. The size of the number has to be preserved because, for example, 970 would not suggest the right number of thousands. Leading zeroes in whole numbers or mixed numbers are always discounted because they do not have any effect on the magnitude of the number.
