how do you solve 5.3 ÷ 167.9 by hand?

OK, forgetful mom, what's putting you off, the decimals or the long division or both? Let's tackle the decimals first. You can get rid of them by multiplying both numbers by 10 which moves the decimal point a place to the right out of sight. Now we have 53 divided by 1679, which is kind of unusual. Sure it isn't 167.9 divided by 5.3? Let's carry on with 53÷1679. 53 is the dividend so write it out and put a decimal point after the 3 followed by as many zeroes as you like: 53.0000... Draw a line over the top and to the left write the divisor and a vertical line: 1679 | 53.00...  Obviously 1679 won't divide into 53, nor 530, but it will divide into 5300. Take a guess at how many times. Three? 3*1679=5037. Write 5037 under 5300 and immediately above on the quotient line write 3. It lines up with the second zero after the decimal point, so it has to look like .03. Subtract 5037 from 5300 to get 263 and bring down the next zero: 2630. 1679 goes into this once, so write 1 next to the 3 in the quotient: .31. Subtract to get 951 and bring down the next zero, and carry on for as long as you can bear or as long as necessary and you have your answer. You should get .0315664... normally written 0.0315664... The zero at the beginning is just there so that the decimal point doesn't get lost. You're now supermom!

how do i add fractions

To add or subtract fractions, obtain a least common denominator. Subtract the numerators in the correct order and retain the same least common denominator for your answer. Simplify. To multiply fractions, multiple the numerators. The product will be the numerator of your answer. Repeat with denominators. Simplify. To divide fractions, take the reciprocal of what you are dividing by. Multiply the reciprocal with the initial number (see above for multiplication process). Simplify. Evaluate means to solve. You can solve fraction problems using the above processes. You can only simplify if both the numerator and denominator are divisible by the same number. If the denominator is odd, you can only simplify it if the numerator also is divisible by a same number. Ex. 88/33. Although the denominator is odd, both the numerator and denominator are divisible by 11 resulting in 8/3 as the simplified answer. To pace yourself during a test do the following. Find out how long you have for the test. Divide this by the total number of problems on the test. Example. 1 hour for 20 problems on your test. This means you have 3 minutes per problem. If you spend more than 3 minutes on a problem, skip it. Continue until you attempt all the problems. Go back with the remainder of the time to retry these problems you skipped. Most likely they are the most difficult, hence why you spent alot of time on them. This method of pacing allows you to skip the hard problems at first, attempt all problems, and finish the easier problems for sure.

3x^3 = 6x^2 - 45x 3x^3 - 6x^2 - 45x = 0 you need to set it = to 0 3(x^3 - 2x^2 - 15x) = 0  divide by 3 x^3 - 2x^2 - 15x = 0 I used long division and got (x^3 - 2x^2 -15x) can be divided by (x+3) (x+3)(x^2 - 5x) = 0 x(x+3)(x - 5) = 0 x = 0, -3, 5 b. is the answer
